Sacking of AIIMS Director.....

Is “Sacking” the right term? The director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr P. Venugopal was sacked by the government yesterday (5th July 2006) on charge of violating the code of conduct. Dr P. Venugopal was the first doctor in India to conduct heart transplantation. Patients, who were benefited by him, still sing praises. Do you think such a person will violate the code of conduct? The root cause of this obnoxious act is the OBC quota controversy. The recent Anti Quota stir which shook the entire nation was also supported by Dr P. Venugopal. Due to this the Health Minister was gunning for him. India is a democratic country where people have the right to express their thoughts. Dr P. Venugopal, had only expressed his thoughts. The act of ‘sacking’ was definitely the wrong thing to do. This hideous act of sacking by the Health Minister has shaken the entire nation. This act strongly propagates the feeling of insecurity amount the AIIMS doctors and students.
The act of sacking has created mayhem at AIIMS. Patients were left unattended. This caused the death of a 35 year old heart patient who was denied medical attention. Turmoil was created at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors have begun a ‘fast till death’ to protest this act.

I strongly belive what Dr P. Venugopal has done is correct. We as an individual have the right to express our selves! India is a democratic country. Hopefully the Health Minister takes back all the charges filed against Dr P. Venugopal and also give him the post of Director back.
